Larnaca is located on the southern coast of Cyprus and it has the island’s largest airport. It is the also the third biggest city within Cyprus with Nicosia taking the lead. It is populated by approximately 75,000 citizens and besides the airport it also has a Marina which is an official entry point in Cyprus by the sea. Larnaca is also sitting on one of the lowest altitude points just 1 meter of elevation above the sea level.
Larnaca is famous for the palm trees lined in the seafront that the locals call Phinikoudes and also for the salt lakes located near the airport where you can see migratory flamingos during early spring and winter. Tourists love Larnaca because of its clean beaches that have been given Blue Flags as recognition of being environmentally clean.
Generally speaking, Larnaca has a rich climate and people enjoy the sunshine throughout the year. Also the hottest months are July and August and the average temperature during those months is between 32°C to 33°C. As for the coldest moths, they are January and February and they have temperature of 17°C during the day and 7°C during nighttime.
In Larnaca during the summer there are clear skies with sunshine for 11 hours per day yet the atmosphere gets cooler by the breeze coming from the sea. From June to September there is almost no rain and the temperatures can get to approximately 30°C. The average daily temperatures for the months of June and September are 24°C and 25°C accordingly. During July and August we see a slight difference in the temperature with high averages of 26°C and 27°C respectively. By the end of September the raining season begins and from December until February we experience the wettest months.
In Larnaca, like every city in Cyprus, winters are soft. From November to April there is mild rainfall and the only place where it snows is up to the Troodos Mountains. From December until February the average temperature is 12°C to 13°C. The average maximum in December is 17°C, 18°C in February and 16°C in January. During the wettest month of January there are approximately 8 rainy days, while from November to March there are approximately 5 to 8 rainy days each month.
Larnaca is the perfect spot to visit because you can combine an exploration of the history of Cyprus and its myths, with a day at the beach playing water sports and enjoying the sunlight. Tourists also love traveling to Larnaca to experience certain festivals that take place there like for instance Kataklysmos which is the Festival of the Flood. Locals celebrate this festival during the beginning of the summer along with various other cultural events.
